...and things may change yet!We are set to start proceedings at the town hall (Mairie) in St Gervais Centre. The whole process of getting married is quite different around these parts (for us anyway!).
We would like people to assemble at the Brasserie De Mont Blanc and in the Town Square opposite at 2pm. Please make sure you have lunch or a late brekkie before setting out, and it will (or should) be very hot so come prepared with sun cream, hats, and parasols.
Friends and family form a guard of honour for the bride as she walks up to the groom at the doors of the Mairie, before direct family and witnesses squeeze into a small room inside to complete the business end of things. Bride and groom then reemerge back through the guard and to the awaiting vehicles. Hell then breaks loose as everyone follows the wedding-mobile in their own cars, or on foot, making as much noise as possible (how very un-British!) – all the way back to where dinner and toasts will be held.
Canapés and aperitifs will then be served once we get back to the chalet garden and following a short blessing photographs will be taken. The toasts will then precede a rustic French feast with lots and lots of lovely wine.
There will be music throughout the meal; however we plan to turn things up at 8pm– which should give folks a bit of down-time before having to dance to YMCA. For those people only attending the evening, we invite you to arrive at any time from 7.30pm.
Out of consideration for our neighbours the music will be turned off at midnight.
Please be aware that this amount of time drinking alcohol in the heat can have serious consequences. Please drink plenty of the water available (it’s like Evian from the tap) and bring something to wear on your head. Sunglasses (including for children) are essential!
A note for the ladies.... Although we have arranged for proper flooring in the marquee, you may find that you have to occasionally walk through grassland. Bring additional shoes or avoid footwear that's tricky to walk in!
